China smartphone shipments declined 5% annually to 105 million units in Q1 2016 according to Strategy Analytics. But, China remains by far the world’s largest smartphone market.

Huawei maintained the first position and captured 16% smartphone market share in China with 16.6 million smartphones units shipped, followed by OPPO overtaking Xiaomi.
Xiaomi had a soft quarter, falling 9% annually and shipping 12.8 million units in China in Q1 2016. It slipped to the third position with 12 percent market share, down from 13 percent one year ago.
Vivo held the fourth position with 12% smartphone market share in China during Q1 2016, up significantly from 7 percent a year ago. The success of Vivo lies in good hardware designs, robust product quality, strong retailer penetration, and increasing brand awareness among mass-market consumers.
Apple posted a soft quarter in China, slipping to the fifth position with 11% smartphone market share. Mixed demand for the iPhone 6s and stronger competition from OPPO and others were among the key factors for its performance.
